Townsite Brewing Inc. – Shiny Penny Belgian IPA Review

The Shiny Benny IPA is a formidable Belgian style IPA at 8.5%. This beer pours into the glass with three fingers of head above a copper-brown coloured ale. The head is thick, full and cloud-like with a creamy texture. Smelling the Shiny Penny, it is strong with a Belgian, barley flavour and citrus along side the 80IBU hop bitterness. A slight alcohol smell also comes into play. The taste is strong! Through a creamy texture comes a brute of an IPA with strong citrus notes and caramel hues along side a hop bitterness. The alcohol flavour is present through the entire tasting of the beer but does not take over the other bold flavours. The finish of the Shiny Penny is surprisingly mellow. The punch up front mellows into a malted, mid-hop finish that leaves the mouth asking for more. This may be a bottle to share but it is definitely a bottle to pick up as something a little different in the BC IPA scene.
