Scandal Brewing – Great Barrier Reef Strawberry Maibock Review

The final brew of the Scandal 7 Wonders series of beers is the Great Barrier Reef Strawberry Maibock. This 7th beer in Scandal’s new crafty-lineup comes from the 750ml stop-top bottle a rather cloudy golden-orange colour with a single finger of head. There are noticeable pieces of sediment in suspension here which are likely from the strawberry content. This Strawberry Maibock smells very strongly of a sweet strawberry body. Remiscent of strawberry jelly or even pie filling, sweetness is definitely high. Beyond the strawberry there is not a whole lot else going on other than some basic malted tones but the sweetness is likely masking any other attributes. The flavour is rather sweet to start with a bit of a German lager feel to it. The strawberry sweetness builds as the taste progresses in a candy-like fashion.  This Scandal beer is very sweet with strong strawberry-candy tones that take charge and don’t leave a much room for anything else. If you have a sweet-tooth and a strawberry fetish then the Great Berrier Reef Strawberry Maibock may just be for you.
