Phillips Brewing Co. – Coast To Coastless Imperial ESB Review
For the Coast To Coastless Imperial ESB four breweries from across Canada collaborated in brewing wonder. Phillips Brewing teamed up with Garrison Brewing, Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery and Le Trou Du Diable to brew a truly Canadian beer. From the bomber bottle this tribute to Acadia appears as an amber-copper colour topped with four finger’s worth of lightly packed, lacing head. An aroma of English style hops, citrus, toasted malt, light caramel and a light touch of copper hit the nose in a big, lightly bittered ESB package. The body is very big for an ESB but that is expected with the Imperial naming. A big, toasted malt base comes in with a slightly burnt, caramel sweetness to it. The burnt tones adds a kick of bitterness that melds well with the traditional, English style hop bitterness. The finish is smooth and a touch creamy with a bitter-sweet lingering note that is quite nice. An Imperial ESB is not a typical style of beer but when for of Canada’s brewing greats come together something amazing can happen.
