Parallel 49 Brewing Co. – 187 On An Undercover Hop Imperial IPA Review
If you are looking for a sublime craft beer experience while also keeping your ear to the ground for some uber-puns, Parallel 49 Brewing Co. has released the 187 On An Undercover Hop. This Imperial IPA comes in at a massive 10.0% alcohol and a questionable 187 IBU. From the bottle this over-the-top beer pours as a light, golden-amber colour with two fingers of dense, slow to settle and lacing head. The aroma is filled with citrus, passion fruit, pineapple and grapefruit tones in a fruity hop-explosion. On the nose, the hops have a big impact but not one of bitterness. Tasting the beer the body is very big and rather smooth. Right off the bat the fruit tones hit the tongue like a salad of tropical flavour. Passion fruit, mango, pineapple, and citrus give a massive tropical hop explosion without too much bitterness to go with it. Also masked by the fruit salad is the extremely high alcohol content although it does build with time. If you like citrus and fruity hops in a big IPA then this is the beer for you. The massive IBUs and huge alcohol content is masked to an unbelievable level with the big, tropical flavours of Chinook, Simcoe, Citra and Mosaic Hops.
