Longwood Brewery – 40KM Wet Hop Island Session Ale Review
The longwood Brewery has put a local twist on teh ISA style calling their concoction the Island Session Ale. Brewed with fresh Williamette hops, and malt both sourced from less than 40km away from the Nanaimo based brewery. This beer takes local to a whole nother level with the full ingreint list being barely more than a hop’s throw away. From the bomber bottle this ISA pours as a cloudy-straw colour with a finger and a half worth of head that leaves light lacing on the glass’s sides. A fresh, grassy and orange-citrus tones comes from the beer in an almost Witbier like nature. The body and flavour are rather light as expected for an ISA with 4.2% alcohol. The fresh notes give a grassy, light pine aroma along with a lemon and orange peel like falvour. Slight coriander tones come into play as well which work deliciously with the orange tones. This is a light and sessionable beer with a fresh flavour from both the freshness of the hops and the delicious citrus notes that come from the more traditional flavours of the Williamette hop variety.
