Steamworks Brewing Co. – YVR India Session Ale (ISA) Review
The Steamworks Brewing Company has lifted off their warm weather beer portfolio with the Vancouver inspired, YVR ISA. This light and summery beer comes in at 40 IBUs for a fairly big hop experience along side a very sessionable 4.4% alcohol. Sold in 6-packs of 330ml bottles the YVR ISA pours into the glass as a rich golden colour with a finger and a half of lacing head. From the beer comes a fruity aroma of pineapple, mango and citrus in what smells like a bigger beer than the label depicts. This ISA is definitely hop forward with a refreshing, fruity smell. As with most ISAs the YVR has a fairly light body. The flavour starts off relatively malty as the hop tones build shortly after. The intensity of the fruity hop tones is much lighter in the flavour then it is on the nose but it is still quite distinct. The notes of pineapple and citrus come out quite strong and give a light sweetness to the beer’s flavour. As the tropical fruit tones start to fade a bitter finally settles in. The 40IBUs become well known in the fading moments of this beer leaving a fairly dry palate despite the lively nature of the beer’s flavour.
