Phillips Brewing Co. – Toothless Pumpkin Sour Ale Review
While there are some sour consumers when it comes to Pumpkin Ales, Phillips has literally soured. Their third pumpkin beer is the Toothless Pumpkin Sour Ale. This Beer pours an orange colour and is topped with two fingers of head which settles without a trace. From the beer comes a spicy aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg with a light acidity on the nose. While the sour is light in the smell it hits the palate hard. A sharp acidity comes up front and leads into a spicy centre. The sour notes dampen the spice and give less pumpkin intensity than a normal Pumpkin Ale. The finish is surprisingly neutral with a mellow spice and sourness that lingers behind. This is a great twist on the Sour Ale Style and a nice change for an October seasonal brew.
