Dead Frog Brewery – Reina De Fuego Mexican Chocolate Porter Review
Aldergrove’s Dead Frog Brewery has added brewed up a Mexican inspired beer with the flavours of chocolate, toffee and chili pepper for a Southern inspired dark beer. This beer comes from the 650ml bottle a dark brown colour that is close to black and has a thin finger of head which leaves no lacing behind on the glass. The aroma is of chocolate with a light chili spice, caramel and toffee notes come in with a light sweetness on the nose. Tasting the beer it is cocoa up front while the spice follows behind hitting the top of the palate. There is very little sweetness but the toffee notes come in the form of a toasted, lightly burnt character that works well with the cocoa character. The finish is dry with a lightly bitter cocoa note and chili spice. This is a balanced beer with nice chocolate tones and subtle spice. All in all, pretty tasty.
Alcohol – 6.0%
Size – 650ml bottles
