In 2015, former CAMRA Vancouver President and well-known Lower Mainland craft beer advocate Adam Chatburn travelled across the border for a camping weekend organised by the Washington Homebrewers Association. The attendees took over an entire campground, with numerous homebrew clubs manning booths and serving generous samples of excellent homebrew. The six-member Canadian contingent, including members of Vanbrewers and BrUBC, had a great time as they hung out with homebrewing brethren from below the 49th. Adam returned to Canada hoping to launch a similar event in BC to celebrate local homebrew and enjoy a good old camping weekend. Unfortunately, other commitments (including his former business, Real Cask Brewing) and some difficulties in finding an appropriate summer weekend venue kept the project on the back burner. That is, until now!
Adam and his partner Yvonne have booked a private campground called Camp Cove on beautiful Harrison Lake in order to stage their BC homebrew camping event. On the weekend of June 14-16 2019, they’ll be enjoying the best not-available-in-store fermented beverages that money can’t buy, while chilling on the long sandy beach of a tranquil bay during the day, and gathering around a toasty fire at night.
They put the word out a number of weeks ago, and so far over 30 homebrewers (many award-winning) have registered to bring a keg of their finest brew (which might be beer, wine, cider, or mead).
You don’t have to be a homebrewer to attend; anyone can come along and enjoy the fruits of others’ labour. The ticket price includes your drinks all weekend. Everyone over 19 is welcome, and so are dogs.
